The agent continued and said they had information that I went into the woods with the Pygmies to dig diamonds, and that is how I financed my projects. I laughed as this rumor spread among the Ekonda in Kinshasa back in 1994. I asked the agent that if this were true, wouldn't every healthy bodied Ekonda be in the forest to dig diamonds? Why don't you go and inspect the rainforest yourself instead of taking me to Kinshasa?

In the end, they said they have information that Luba caused conflicts between the Pygmies and the Bantu. They added that they had information that Luba organized secret meetings with the Pygmies to incite them to revolt against the Bantu.

After their last comments, they left. I sat in my room, half amused and half angry. I thought to myself: the Ekonda know that 80% of the patients at the hospital and health centers are Ekonda. They know that 70% of the students at the high school where I teach are Ekonda, and all the nurses at the hospital and health centers are Ekonda, except for six. They are willing to risk losing all of this because I work for the liberation of the Botoa.
