My Vow to Protect the Pygmies (2000)

Excerpt from the draft of “Apostle to the Pygmies – The Doctor Jerry Galloway Story”

In early March, a new group of six soldiers arrived, and they were awful. On Sunday night, the soldiers went to a Botoa neighborhood and entered homes, stole chickens, and threatened the people. The soldiers entered the home of a Botoa teacher, who tutored the sixth grade and made advances on his wife. The teacher pushed the soldiers out of his house; however, they arrested him.

The soldiers took the teacher and his wife to their military camp and locked the teacher in a separate room. He protested that his wife must be allowed to stay with him. After a certain amount of time, he did not hear his wife, so he started to scream and kick the door. It was not clear if the soldier raped her since she would not say a word.

The following day, I sent a message to the commander of the military police in Kiri to come and arrest the soldiers. The commander arrived the next day, and after he heard the testimony of the teacher and his wife, he arrested the soldiers and hauled them off to Kiri. I was so relieved and vowed I would not let them harm the Botoa.
