The "Miracle Boy" (1996)

Excerpt from the draft of “Apostle to the Pygmies – The Doctor Jerry Galloway Story”

It is undoubtedly the miracle of Christmas to see people rejoice and hope for a better tomorrow, despite their poverty, misery, and subsistence.

There was a young boy I called my "miracle boy." The child was three years old, and they hospitalized him on December 21 in critical condition. His parents gave him an enema of traditional medicines to treat a respiratory infection. The boy had a distended abdomen and he was very short of breath. I gave him intravenous fluids, antibiotics, and inserted a gastrointestinal tube. His condition was so bad I was sure the boy would die.

However, the next morning, his abdomen was flat, and he was breathing better. On Monday, he had bowel sounds and passed gas. At noon, the nurse called me to come because the boy was short of breath. They let a liter of intravenous fluids run for over three hours. Now, the little boy had heart failure and water in his lungs. I immediately treated him, and he began to get better. By Christmas Day, the boy ate and smiled.

Several days later, they called me again because the boy had shortness of breath and wheezed like an asthmatic. I treated him with three asthma medicines; however, the boy did not improve. The next night, I told the nurse we already gave the boy all the medications we could. I did not think the boy would make it through the night. In my prayers, I said, "Lord, I have done all I can. The little fellow is in Your hands." The next morning the little boy breathed normally, and he could eat. I said, "Thank the good Lord."
